You read about them on web pages. You read about them
in  blogs and in the Bentley and, of course, you read
about them here but you seldom come across the mention
of one on the printed page in casual reading.

I picked up a copy of "The Unsavvy Traveler," a
collection of travel writings, and in "The Mongrels"
by Novella Carpenter paragraph three begins with the
above words.  That's about it for Vanagon-specific
narrative, but it's an okay yarn and there's later
mention of an interesting demise involving a different
van.
