<<The first time I tried to have my propane serviced, the pesky autostop
stuck in the open position. I called all over town to see what could be
done. No one I talked to would even entertain the notion of replacing it
with a manual valve.>>
In my situation, 4 years ago I called Manchester Tank Co.
My valve was an on again off again leaker on my 87 Westy.
Plus every time I went to get it filled up the attendant in charge would
look at it with stars in his eyes.
He didn't have a clue how to get the propane into the tank, nor did he
even want to try.
Manchester wanted $129.00 plus shipping to rebuild mine.
I thought they were nuts---plus the Autostop valves are an antique
item--no longer available new.
For some goofy reason, I just happen to look at my 74 Westy's tank--and
it doesn't have an Autostop valve at all--it's all manual.
Huh---
I purchased a manual valve from VW, installed it, and the rest of the
problem's are history.
It is a direct fit item--no one iota of a
glitch, and it can be installed at home at your own convenience--it's
not brain surgery.
Since then I have made the exact same VW valve available for late model
Westy owner's with Autostop valve problems, and everybodies been elated
at the end of the of the Autostop valve headaches.
These valves are not the Acme low dollar made in China, Burma or
Bangladesh cheepo manual valves.
They are the exact duplicates, made in USA, of what VW Type 2 / Vanagon
/ Westfalia used originally, and work very well.
You can check them out in the "VanStuff" web page below.
It is the easiest and an inexpensive alternative to the junk Autostop
valve headache's.
Take Care,
