Got my '90 Westy automatic in April but haven't driven it much until the past week. I know I've been overly cautious with it - almost afraid to use the air conditioner, and still haven't used the cruise control, yet. Yesterday, due to not understanding the instrument panel, I was afraid the temperature was creeping up towards hot, but checked the manual and found that a temp gauge needle pointing downward was a good thing. The air conditioner blows cold air, but it takes a while for the air to get to the front. I was thinking about getting a small 12 volt fan to "help it out" a little. What I don't exactly understand is why I feel a cool breeze from the AC every time I turn or change my speed. Of course all the windows are closed. I'd also like to know exactly which coolant/anti-freeze I should get and keep on hand, as well as which engine oil. I seem to remember about the coolant being specifically for Vanagons. Is the coolant available at any auto supply store? I don't want to wait until I actually NEED it and then have to search all over town for it! When I got my Westy, I had it checked out by a mechanic, and it passed with flying colors. I know I'm being overly cautious, but I'd just like to drive it locally for a while before I take it to the "next level:" camping! Thanks. Patti '90 Westy Automatic |
