Did you carefully look under the driver's seat for a relay? Lots of 1990 passenger Syncros have a small relay there. The AW campers were built from passenger models. While the AW may not use it it could still be there are partially connected. If that is the case, simply pull the small blue wire from the relay. This blue wire comes from the alternator light circuit. When you rev the engine and the alternator light goes out this blue wire gets 13 volts and passes it through the relay coil to the red/black wire.
