Everyone knows searching through the archive is a slow process.  I was trying to search through it to solve my fuel guage problem.  I filled up my tank last night and the guage didn't peg it went dead!  Searching through the archive for fuel gauge returned thousands of hits very slowly.  

I went to Google www.google.com and typed in 

fuel gauge site:http://gerry.vanagon.com

This searches for the words fuel gauge through the entire archive!  It was so fast.  Might want to give it a try to see if it speeds up your archive searches.
