Vanagons are relatively durable in my opinion. But most of your local garages probably do not know about them very well. They may waste your money in repairing them for you. Experienced Vanagon mechanics on the other hand will not be cheap. Had I needed others to service my Vanagon it probably would have cost far more than $800, including the initial purchase cost, per year over 20 years.
