Subject: AC Compressors
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

I installed AC under the back seat of my Tristar last year. I felt the installation was good, but the system never seemed to work properly.

The guy who helped make the hoses and charge the system seemed to feel that it worked fine when he did the work, but it was never right even the day after I picked it up and soon stopped blowing cold at all. I can't fault the guy because I supplied the compressor and he charged me next to nothing for all the parts he supplied, or for that matter the installation work he did. He owned a great AC shop for 20 years, sold, retired, and 6 months later found himself at home doing nothing. So he opened up a new shop and does work cheap. The only problem is he takes weeks to get work done!

Anway, finally, after a year, I took it to another AC shop and they leak checked and tested the system. The compressor is shot, everthing else is perfect.

It was used SD508 without any history, so I am not surprised. So it's $650 parts and labor, or find my own compressor to bring down the price. I need to get a "rabbit ear" inlet out style compressor or I will need new hoses made again.

So, what are the choices? SD508, SD609. Any known good used ones near SF .... Ben?
