My suggestion is to hot wire the fuel pump, or jumper the relay, to make it run 'no matter what' to see if it will run at all. It the pump runs, try to start the van. if the van runs, then you know to work on the fuel pump circuit. ( ecu supplies ground to the f. pump relay for that first 10 second, key-just-turned-on hum. It's good to always listen for the pump running before you turn the key to 'start.' If the fuel pump doesn't run when you hot wire it or jumper the relay try tapping on it or shaking it to see if it'll go 'more time.' If it does that - it's for sure a tired/dead pump. If it's stone dead, and you are super sure you're getting both voltage and ground to it , then it's dead. You could also at least eyeball the pump visually, to see if a wire fell off or whatever. I use Bosch fuel pumps only. Hope you find it ! and it's a 'clean' repair - that that's what it needed, and it's fixed for good in that department ! Scott www.turbovans.com

Has gas, has lights, it cranks, but as soon as I got in and turned on the ignition I noticed NO SOUND coming from the fuel pump. It has 178,000 miles on it, the pump looks suspiciously pretty like it probably is not the original. The filter was new about a year ago. Does the list recommend any tests before I simply order up another fuel pump? And while I'm at it, any advice on which brand of pump to get? Steve, in Chicago, 91 GL with '95 Subie 2.2 installed. |
