Inspect the seal as you are removing it. It may have deteriorated to the point where it is in pieces, and/or become brittle and hard. Be careful to get all of the pieces out of the seal groove and the cavity in the side of the trans/final drive. Also inspect the steel cover itself. It may have rust perforations. When my trans started to leak at the governor seal, I was surprised to find holes in the cover! Ron LK Johnson <adhocMedia@COMCAST.NET> wrote: We've owned our '91 for only around 2 months. A week or so after bringing it home, noticed leak spots on the ground. A few forays underneath indicate that the majority of the leak is coming form the Governor cap/seal area. Is it as easy as I think it is to replace the seal? Pop the wire bale off, remove cap, clean area, replace old o-ring? I plan to drain the fluid and replace the filter and pan gasket as well.
Is there anything else I should consider doing at this time/ Things to watch out for?
