We are in Bend as of last night. We came up the 97 stopping at a number of places, and camping overnight in La Pine state park. As we arrived in Bend, the van quit again, just as we were coasting downhill, so I was able to pull around a corner onto a quiet street. The Pertronix ignition has been giving me some trouble, so I phoned "Steve's Place" in Bend, who happened to have the correct points and condenser. I got the van started again, went over to Steve's, and thought I would carry the parts for "insurance". However, as I gave it some thought, I determined it wiser to just go ahead and do the swap, which I did this morning. Once installed, the new points/condenser are great, and the van actually starts easier than before. I guess the Pertronix was getting tired. There is something to be said for - old, tried and true, mechanical, I can see if there is something wrong, not sealed in plastic - parts. :) We are going to head out the 46 into the Deschutes, and work our way south a bit, and connect to the 58 heading into Eugene. From there, we will work our way north again. The weather is warm, and all is good. Take care, Phil and Marleen '81 Westy (with new points and condenser) :)
