Subject: Re: Ripoff on Vancouver Island-Auto Glass Prices

A few years ago I was looking for a windshield for a '77 Bay. I called a local Safelite and was quoted $250.00. I then found a place on the Internet (windshieldstogo.com or something like that) that listed the Bay windshield for $99.00 plus shipping, but it also said to contact them because I could possibly pick it at one of their many warehouses and save the shipping costs. I ordered it, and they contacted me and told me I could pick it up at their "warehouse"-the very same Safelite that I had called and was quoted $250.00! When I picked it up, the guy had to search for about 30 minutes in the warehouse before he found it-but out he came carrying a Bay windshield that had about an inch of dust on it. Little known fact, but auto parts places (esp. dealers) will bargain sometimes on prices. I had a parts counter guy quote me a price on a part once and when I turned and started to walk out, he cut the price by $20.00-which was probably the amount that was going to go in his pocket. Jeff
