Sounds like you were given a "Universal" Bosch Red High performance coil.
The coil for the electronic ignition is very specific and the even the year
can matter as diffrent ignition cables are used. The later coil with a
center pin, and matching wires and cap. The center pin connections work
better. Most of the after market wores now have universal ends on the cap
side that will work with both styles.
