I rented a camper in 2001 for my honeymoon on the big island. I met up with
Mick Kalber and he gave me some tips about campgrounds and things to see.
It was by far the best way to see the island. The van had a couple of dents
so I almost looked like a local! It was WAY cheaper than renting a car and
a hotel room, and twice as fun. We went all the way around the island and
up to the volcanoes national park. I've visited Hawaii three other times,
that was certianly the best. The van ran great and was set up with all the
cooking gear we needed, it even had a copy of the bood "The Big Island
revealed <http://www.wizardpub.com/bigisland/bigisland.html>" with notes
from past renters. The contrast between Kona and Hilo is amazing. Don't
miss out on the drive to South Point either. Have fun!
