dear john
i installed a pop top on my 69 bun type 2
i had scavenged it from another westy...
it was a little bit different than most pop tops in that the luggage rack
was at the back instead of the front
this caused wind to enter under the front brow and try to lift the top
against its will and way ...
the rubber tie downs were new and installed correctly so it wasnt that...
to mange the problem and stop the fear of seeing my pop top flying off into
my wake ... i
used a 1" wide tie down strap with a ratchet tightener ...
opened both doors and had the ratchet hanging mid cab ...
tightened this down gently / close doors
and then when i went highway speed the top stayed put...
there was no wind noise from this addition ...
indeed i cant recall any wind noise that was not an indication of something
else going on
good luck with your conversion...
oh yes cover the glass on the inside with spark arrest tarp before you cut
the roof out
indeed cover the whole inside with spark arrest tarp ...
to avoid damage that will vex you long into the future
yours

There are two kinds of jobs in the world:
Picking up garbage and telling people things.
Successful people do both, with the same good attitude. (riw)
