The dash lights are powered by the adjustment wheel on the headight on/off switch. On 88 models that feeds through a fuse at relay position 16 on the main relay panel. Page 97.119 of the Bentley shows the relay panel and a black square with a 16 in it. That is where you should look. If the fuse is blown, the 3 wires you mentioned that are joined together may need to be separated to keep the fuse from blowing again. Grey/blue is the color of the dash light circuit wires. They run all across the dash to light the cig socket outer ring, for example, and also to the original radio harness to light the stock radio at night, not needed anymore.
