In defense of Peugeots I have to say they are the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned. (504 wagon and 505 sti). They are also the

most comfortable and ergonomic vehicles I have ever owned. The wagon was my first "camper" as fitted with curtains, a foam mattress and a

kitchen kit, it was "home" for among other adventures, an extended trip from Alberta to the tip of Gaspé and back. Decent mileage and

no major repairs for either of them over five and 12 years ownership respectively.

Rather than cost of repair you might want to look at cost of ownership which looks at initial cost and frequency of repair minus recovered $$ at time of resale. It's a little more complex but is the true measure of a vehicles cost. Wesfalias come out fairly well here, particularly if you acquire one that has been well maintained. They hold their value well.
