Yes, Coincidently, I had this done yesterday!

My original 84 westy valve leaked from the pin hole when I turned the
valve on.  My Propane dealer  guru said the diaphram in it was shot,
you don't rebuild them any more, & need to replace w/ a new 2 stage
valve that is longer than the original.  You have to bend the copper
lines that connect to it very carefully so you don't crimp them, or
cut them off, reflare the ends & reconnect your original fittings w/
the new longer valve.

He bent the lines to fit the new valve, checked for leaks, then
filled the tank w/ 2.6 gals. of propane, & the total cost was  $33.

I thought this was very reasonable as GW sells the same valve for $30.
