what about one of those old-timey drive-in type 'tray' tables, that latched onto your partly-rolled-up window?? and had a leg or two to brace against the side of the car.

you could get a metal tv-dinner type table for the den/living room at wal-mart or some such, with the fold-up legs, and adapt that to latch onto the opened sliding door window. or just the aluminum frame of the window. or be held securely by the window being closed on it.

just rambling. :)
