The  original fan is trying to draw air from the floor area inside the van,
up  the back over the cooling fins, and out both the grill you mention  and
the  grill across the back of the stove/sink unit.  That puts  the hot air
right back into the van.  The idea of the exhaust fan  mounted in the city
water inlet is to get the hot air out of the van.   I've tried a fan on the
gill over the cabinets and found no apparent  difference in performance.
Those that have added the exhaust fan to the  outside have reported improved
cooling especially when the ambient  temperature is high.





Ditto -  I've had the  city water outlet fan mod installed for over two years
now and it's one of the  best improvements to the Dometic fridge operation.
