are you jacking the rear to get under it or just to move the oil to the drain plug?

My experience is that when I have filled it up to the hole, the shifter arm point on the case weeps. Messy. I just stick a finger inside the hole up to the first joint and point it down and when the fingertip is damp, I stop there. I remember that I've got the van jacked up and the "level" of the lube is going to be higher than if I filled it while not jacked up, so I don't fill it up to the hole.
