For a nice overview, try recreation.gov.  Also go each agency's home page
(USFS, state, county).  Another resouce I found is freecampgrounds.com.  I
recently discovered Army Corp of Engineer sites and have been researching
those too.  Oh yeah, I pretty much live to camp.....
