Loren, my solution is simple: no insulation. Where I mounted it there is nothing that can short it. I insulated the box instead. Check out http://moose83s.googlepages.com/electrical for how it looks. The piece to the left is a shaped wood block that keeps the battery from sliding around. If you are really concerned you could put a top wood piece on that to make a cover.
