Last month I drove my Carat (manual trans) from Ohio to my home in NW Washington and kept careful track of my fuel consumption.

Average was 21.4 mpg over 2289 miles.

Average in the mountains - 23.2 mpg over 458 miles.

When I first picked it up in Ohio it was a bit of a mess. It had been sitting for almost a year, and after pumping up the tires and jump-starting it ran terribly (very rich). I drove it over to a friends driveway to work on it, having to stop along the way to let the right front brake cool down (it was dragging badly).

Next day I freed up the brake by exercising the piston with a C-clamp, changed the temp 2 sensor and AFM, cleaned the O2 sensor connections and did a Wal Mart parking lot oil change and A/C recharge.

Then I drove it home (2.5 days). I kept the speed at 62 mph in deference to the high mileage (240,000) engine which I wanted to keep intact (no AAA!).
