and  depending on where you mount the 1315 can be very exposed to  being

Loren,  I have installed many of these and never added any cover, never seen
a problem  so far.  I ALWAYS install them in the battery box with the AUX
battery.  In the forward RH corner under the ledge.  Well protected  there.  You
will need to cut one foot off the 1315 to get as close to the  wall as
possible to allow a group 41 battery to fit.  With an Optima  battery you do not need
to cut the foot off.
