Jim, the only thing (that I knopw of) that can cause idle that high with the throttle body closed is an idle control valve opened all the way. Remove the plug from the valve (with the engine off) amd see whether you have normal idle. If yes, the idle control unit may be shot. If no the valve may be stuck open. You can clamp the hose to the idle control valve to see whether that brings down the idle. If so get a new idle control valve. It's fine to disable the idle control system for a while. The van should run ok without it. Hope this helps, Reinhard
