i was going to stay out of this stupid thread but i couldnt resist. ive had numerous vanagons with the stock 14" alloys.. and YES they do bend. ive gone some bent ones here that i have saved to roll parts vans around on.

audi makes alot of different alloy wheels. so does vw. some styles by design are stronger than others. audi makes some forged alloys that were an option on the 5000TQ that will stand up to more abuse than any cast vanagon alloy will. and you know what, theyre all made by the same company. *if* there was such a statement issued by audi, it was because their lawyers want to cover their ass. everyone issues disclaimers these days to cover their asses for everything. im sure if VW found out that i was modifying rabbit/golf GTI steering wheels to use on vanagons, the'd issue a disclaimer for that too. its all about lawyers, disclaimers and covering your asses folks.

so if your scared to save big bucks and use wheels off other vehicles that folks have been running for 10+ years on their vanagons with no issues (i ran my first set of audi alloys on a vanagon 11 years ago, with no probs), then im sure there are some new parts vendors on this list who will gladly empty your wallet to the tune of $800+ for some "special vanagon approved" new alloys.

ps, folks a fully loaded audi 5000 turbo quattro is a HEAVY car..ive owned type44 Turbos since 88, (my first car was a '84 5000 turbo) and never bent a wheel on one..but dont believe me, believe the naysayers :<)

there. thats my own disclaimer :<)

chris who's running 16" volvo alloys in his Doka. OMG lets bring out the wheel police!
