I've reset the timing to where it was, though i didnt think it was right to
begin with. I had tried to time the engine some time ago with an induction
timing light and plenty of help....found it to be something like 180* off,
rearranged the plugs to the only arrangement that worked, and it worked.
Since then, a mechanic has completely rebuilt the distributor and installed
it, had the same issues and timed it by ear. He was VERY close, i could
tell/feel it. So i know the profound effect timing can have on idle, but
everything is not adding up.
I've found a sweet spot. Between messing with the distributor and the the
idle adjustment screw, i have found a place where the idle stays beautifully
at 900rpms and the timing feels right. However.....this only is the case
when the engines warm. If i let it cool fully....it will start
systimatically dieing again. Its starting to seem to me like it would make
the most sense to replace the idle stabilizer....as it seems not to be doing
anything. Is this logical (its an expensive part, and i have no spares...).
Thanks again!
