Don, Grundig makes really good radios. But you need to set up some simple
antenna in order to get the most out of it. Camping sometimes can be quite
lonely. A good radio with some clear voice can be a best companion in a
camping night before sleeping. Does your Grundig have SSB (single side
band) AM functions? If it does you may be able to listen to people
communicating worldwide on some HAM radio bands. BAJA will be a very good
place for AM SSB reception as there is very little interference generated
from busy cities. The radio will sound really good when the sky is quiet.
Don't know if you can transmit anything out of Baja California if you have a
HF HAM transceiver. Will Mexican government allow Americans operate a HAM
transceiver in Baja? If you can it will be fun to communicate with some
folks back in the states while you are out in Baja. It's fun to operate a
radio in a camping event.
Somehow I do not see any discussions among camper owners in this list about
HAM radio stuff. In my opinion a Westy without a radio transceiver is not
complete. At least you should have a good CB SSB transceiver in it.
