The pressure in the vehicle owner's handbook is merely a setting for comfort. Using a somewhat higher pressure (I use 32PSI generally in my cars, running ordinary tires) will give better handling and let the tires run cooler, giving longer tread life. Of course severe overinflating can cause stress failure, increaesd wear on the now-bulging tread center...
