We just got back (to Maryland) from Lubec an hour ago! We were at Cobscook State Park for a week, and had a great time.

Continuing on the Olympia WA spottingthread, saw four vanagons around the 'hood, a crusty '91 and three Westies, no syncros.

However, the best story was while I was sitting in the Lyons' parking lot, a guy comes up, very tentative, and asks if I had much experience with vanagons. A bit, I said, so he asked my his advice about a vanagon an elderly neighbor wanted to sell. 56K miles, body looks very nice but air cooled. He'd only use it in the summer so the heat thing was not a real problem, he thought.

"Would I be overpaying if I gave him the thousand bucks he is asking?"

"No, I told him that sounds like a decent deal. I'd go for it" I told him.

"Well, maybe I will, he said. I'm woried about keeping it up - the fiberglass top, keeping the stove and fridge running."

Its a Westie, I realized. I could barely contain myself. "Like I said, I'd go for it. "

Maybe he did, maybe he didn't. Its out there in Lubec, folks. :)

PS: Give the Cohill Inn right at the foot of the commercial dock a try for lunch. A new couple took the place over from the lameass previous owner. Good meal and they deserve your support.
