Torn boots are a fact of life.  I can't speak for your area(where ever that is) but here 80,000 miles on CV boots is pretty good.  Outer boots have to turn as well as rotate with the axle, they are subject to heat and cold, road debris, and natural degradation from exposure to the atmosphere.  Ask the shops in your area, maybe the failure you had was unusual or you may find that the boots lasted as long as could be expected.
