the Carat was volkswagen's "cadillac" of vanagons. it was seven passenger hardtop vanagon that was loaded w/ all options (pwr mirrors, pwr doorlocks, pwr windows, cruise, a/c, ps) and had a pair of rear facing removable jumpseats instead of the bench middle seat, and a weekender rear sofabed. they also had fiberglass bumpers and sideskirts, and had factory lowering springs. They were called "wolfsburg editions" in '87 and '88 (and a few '89's) the "carat" name replaced the wolfsburg name in '89 thru '91.
