Hi All! A number of years ago, my local VW dealer (before they were bought out by a mega-dealership-company) gave me a bunch of the solarpanel battery chargers that came with new VWs to keep their batteries "topped up" while sitting in the delivery lots, etc. I had been using one in the winter time on the window above the sink to add a little "juice" to the auxiliary battery, especially when I wasn't driving the Westy often. However, the van is parked with the driver's side of the van facing east, so in the afternoon, it wouldn't be getting too much sun. This afternoon I got what I call a "DUH ephiphany"..... I wanted to mount the charger on the roof somehow and run the cable down to the aux battery....and then it struck me! (no not the solar panel) The charger was approximately the size of the roof vent, so I thought. So I put the charger up against the roof vent, the suction cups took hold...IT FIT!!! I ran the cable from the charger across the support bar and down to the aux power plug (aka cigarette lighter) I have on the kitchen cabenet. Now we have to see if the suction cups do their job!
Maybe the skylight guy can come up with a solar panel roof vent!
