Hey John, everytime I notice what an odd group of people vanagon folks are... I also remember the possibility of us actually being objectively the normal ones, and everyone else being strange.

The carbon fiber talk is funny because I was doing some reading about it and then it came up here. I agree that it likely isn't worthwhile in terms of practicality or cost/benefit. But I wonder what the weight savings would be.. and up that high, it could have an effect on center of mass... which would make Rallying a syncro even more possible(this is an intention of mine ha). But making the carbon fiber roof would be fun, and pretty cool. How about an entire carbon fiber body... just don't hit anything ha. I bet that porsche powered van on the track in germany would benefit. Then still while we're talking pricey potential roofs I'm interested in the plastic solar material they are working on at wake forest. I'd love to have an injection molded or vac formed plastic roof stock weight, the whole of which generated power.. that would be cool too.
