I think the steering was greatly improved on Vanagons.

I traveled the I-5 often in California in my Bay and splittie pickup; the
head and sidewinds can cause some excitement.  I guess I've drove them so
long that it really doesn't bother me that much.

This morning driving to Sacramento on my new 15" wheels and BFG All Terrains
my syncro seemed to wander in the sidewind more than I cared for.  Didn't
really improve over the 14", but my husband equipped the van for off-roading
and not commuting and most of the time I don't commute in it.
