First set of questions: What viscosity oil is being used? Should be 20w-50 or synthetic equal like 15w-50. What is the fill level? Top mark is too high. How hot is the engine running? Use infrared thermometer on case. 200-210 max. What is the idle speed? In gear. 850-900.

Next it is possible to have a bad switch or better yet, the wire is frayed somewhere and shorting out turning on the light.

Next step is to check the oil pressure with a gauge.

Dennis

I have an 84 vanagon, automatic, after it gets good and warm and has been driven vfor a while I notice at idle I get a flickering oil light. Oil level is good, rasing the RPM's ever so slightly makes it go away, as does putting it in park and letting it idle. Any ideas?
