Subject: Moab BLM Plan - LVC
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1

Larry Chase and I are tentatively planning an archaeologically based vanagon campout in the Four Corners area next Spring and we have had a lot of response from those interested in going. Therein lies the vanagon content. For those of you who know and love these Canyonlands of southeast Utah, I invite you to read, and perhaps respond to, the report in the link below from the Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance.

The BLM proposal will result in 84 percent of public lands near Moab (those south of I-70 which attract most of the area's visitors) being within 1/2 mile of a designated ORV route. The wilderness which would be impacted is rife with archaeological ruins and also contains irreplaceable natural resources. I don't advocate no access to wilderness - but there are already numerous jeep trails and back roads in the canyon country, as well as mining and oil and gas facilities.
