Note that the chart from the VW manual show the largest temperature range for 15W-40, and that it goes to a temperature just as high as the 20W-50. I never even knew that 15W-40 was available until I noticed this in a VW manual and started to look for it. Before I started using Mobil 1 in some engines, I used it in all my vehicles, usually Shell Rotella T.
