Ed, I would check off on the items Ken lists below first. I have had a variety of cooling system problems (on a 90 2.1) recently which started with overheating and what appeared to be air in the system, gurgling and bubbles in the reservoir. Before assuming it was a gasket leak at the head though I replaced the thermostat ( a small cost to remove this as a possibility) and this was my problem. -john
