I agree. We've been using a small portable battery operated fluorescent for >10 years in our Westy for reading in the top bunk. It's only about 8"x2"x1 but is very bright. I also installed a hard wired 12V incandescent, but prefer the softer Fl for reading. In my case, it takes a 6V input, so I use a cheap multi range transformer of the cig light plug., and hang the light from the cross bar in the top bunk.
