Hi,

We recently installed one o' they (bought from Harbor Freight) into our Westy. The outdoor sensor was a 5/8" diameter plastic disc.

S bought a 1/2" drill bit (a 5/8" drill bit was beaucoup bucks more expensive) and drilled though the body of the van, behind the louvers, by working through the Westy rear cabinet.

And then he used a 1/8" (or nearly) round file to make the hole sufficiently wide to pass the sensor through. A Dremel would have also worked, but we had neglected to bring ours with us. (A really, really nice San Diego county park ranger went out of her way to bring us three files to choose from, despite that they don't as a rule loan their tools. Service beyond the call of duty!)

And he needed my skinny arm and fingers to feed the sensor between the rear cabinet and the side of the van.

Before he passed the sensor through, he threaded a grommet onto the wire to keep the wire from chafing on the edge of the hole.

He might one day caulk the opening. Or maybe not. *shrug* We're not too worried about rust here in SoCal.

Where do you put the durn things?
