If you remove the distributor the easy way, you can't mess up the timing and don't need to later adjust it.

Just leave the clamp bolt tight. Remove the 13mm sized nut that holds the clamp bracket down to the engine block. Then lift out the distributor along with the clamp bracket. The timing clamp remains tight on the distributor. Put the whole thing back when you are done.
