Subject: Anyone know of a model-ID list for Toyotas? NVC
Content-type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1; format=flowed

TRYING to get the model numbers for as many Toyotas as possible, say a comprehensive list... there doesn't seem to be any one place to look.

VINs are useless, as they're just a number assigned by the local gummint. These take no account of the make or model. What I want is the model code, which up til about 2000 was normally stamped into the firewall as well as a bonded-on plaque (or under the engine-lid in vans), but in later models often only appears on a bonded-on plaque, sometimes in a front doorjamb. The model code is followed by a hyphen and the serial number.

Examples of model codes: RWD Corolla - KE10, KE25, KE30, KE70, CE70 etc FWD Corolla -AE80, CE96, AE 120 etc LandCruiser -BJ80, FJ80 etc Corona -RT104, ST170, CT176, ST180, ST210, ST240 etc Camry -SV20, SV30, CV30, SV60 etc Hiace -RH20, LH60, ZH110, DH205 etc

There are many more model codes than vehicle variants... eg a base-model 1987 Corolla diesel manual sedan is a CE80; a more-upmarket 1983 Srinter liftback diesel automatic is also a CE80. A 1994 Corona diesel FWD sedan is a CT190; a 1994 Corona diesel 4WD sedan is a CT190 as well (C in a Toyota car code means diesel). But a gas 1989 Corona sedan could be an ST170 or an ST171.

Anyone come across anything like this?
