Hi John,

I have been watching the progress of this project with interest as I too would love to have a set of fog lights installed either side of my lower grille. I even bought the genuine fog light switch quite some time ago (in case it became NLA before I ever got 'round tuit re the lamps)

I would however be another one of those who could not/would not cut or drill into my van's body work for anything...even though I know fully well that the hole would be adequately covered.

It was for this reason I never installed one of the original T3 Oettinger fog light kits when they were available here in Oz or when the opportunity occasionally arose to have a set brought back from Germany. The Oettinger kit required the cutting of a rectangular hole in order to house the fog lamp as it required setting back into the body. I could not even contemplate that proposal, even though I trusted myself to do a neat job and carefully re-paint all exposed metal edges. Also they were very $%&*ing expensive!

Then along came the Projekt Zwo lamp kit that avoided this requirement with a shallow lamp and while it was generally regarded here that the Oettinger lamp arrangement put out a superior light due to the extra depth of the lamp, I procrastinated too long about actually getting the PZ kit, they became NLA in Oz and the opportunity passed me by...:-(

Anyway, if the need to drill into one's bodywork can be resolved, count me in also as another interested party to help make the production of this item viable. If however drilling cannot be avoided, I would regretfully have to decline....being the anally retentive VW owner that I obviously am...;-)

I now have both a sample lamp - graciously supplied by Daniel Stern Lighting - and the plastic grille sample graciously supplied by Kim Brennan.

I was ready to take them over to the plastics supply house that is going to run them for me, but discovered that the lamp from DS, while a very excellent lamp which includes built in direction adjusters - has a connection point that sticks out significantly on the back of the lamp. To put the assembly together as is - ie, without modifying the plastic grille piece, requires that a hole about the size of a quarter be cut into the front sheet metal in order to accommodate the protruding connector.

My question is - what is everyones feeling about that hole as part of the price of having these very nice grille extensions with adjustable fog lamps?

I would like to hear from everyone who has an opinion.

List Vendors - please respond also, with your view as to how that will impact later sales when people learn they have to cut a hole to make it fit.

Responses most appreciated.

Thanks,

Regards,
