I don't want to do it, it was just an interesting thought. I do know of someone in Australia who build his own motorcycle... he MADE the DOHC engine from scratch as well.

Most OHC engines have hydraulic valve-adjusters.

>Right now I can't even think of any "OHC air cooled car engines" other than >an NSU rear engine, OHC air cooled inline four, mounted sideways, in the >rear. A late 70's era car. I did a head job on one once. >( hmmm.....porsche racing engines, from the 60's. - those are 4 cylinder, OHC air cooled car engines )

Tatra V8s were DOHC and aircooled. Aircooled 911s... they were all SOHC, and changed to DOHC with the 959 (with watercooled heads) and its watercooled descendants. An aircooled 911 head might be modifiable for use on a VW engine; cams might be modifiable to take belt pulleys. Subaru heads might be the berries, but you'd need a watercooling system, with a smallish radiator... and you'd need a Type 4 base (well, who in their right mind would hop-up a Beetle engine anyway? Grenade...). Good for an aircooled T3 or earlier bus? Radiator could be mounted in front of the front torsionbeams.

Heck, has anyone tried stretching a VW aircooled by 2 cylinders??

I have heard that a VW Type 1 head will fit directly onto a Fiat 500 Bambino aircooled parallel-twin engine... if so it would have to be a 1200 head, and what would that say about Fiat's designers? -- Andrew Grebneff Dunedin New Zealand Fossil preparator Seashell, Macintosh, VW/Toyota van nut ‚ Opinions stated are mine, not of the University of Otago "There is water at the bottom of the ocean" - Talking Heads
