The filler can be easily replaced with another used one.  Your cap will fit
and there wont be a problem.

GAS CAPS!!!! EASY FIX
I got a used gas cap with out a key,  I took off the locking ring off the
end, stuck my key into the cap and then used a file to take down the plastic
tabs.  Result the used cap worked on my van and locks with my key (granted
only 3 out of the 5 tabs engage--but still locks)

My 84 Westy's gas tank filler tube entry is finally about to give up the
ghost as years of rusting have finally taken the toll.  The edging which
"locks" the gas cap in place, are almost rusted through, and I expect will
break off in the next 1-3 fill-ups.
Does anyone on the list know if anyone fabricates and sells liners (with
lock-related edging) which can be slipped into the filler tube.  This would
surely save me some precious $$$ if available.
