I can tell you that a 91 BMW 525i can go about 20 miles on a fully charged battery before it dies... with no electric items running.

Not sure how far a Vanagon will go, as the battery powers the fuel pump, ECU, various other items. Be sure to let us know how far you make it, before hooking up battery #2.

Aha! It seems to be the alternator. I get about 11.5 amps when the motor is on from the main wire on the rear. A little less from the blue wire (small). No Juice coming out, I guess. Didn't realize Bus Boys was in Redding, I may have to back-track there for an alternator..Alturas is on 395 hwy, which is in the next valley over from Redding and a bit north..but if I have to order, it would probably be from them anyhow, and then I would wait and pay someone to deliver it to me?
