Hi Kevin The Best adhesive is Tear Mender. It is a Latex Adhesive. It wont stick to you when applying. Just take a Piece of 2x4 and put the top on it from the inside to keep the canvas slack. If it is a clean tear and a non stress area all you need to do is gently apply a very small amount of glue to the torn seam, bond the edges together and let it dry. We use it for our westy screen replacement kits and its the only adhesive I would trust for canvas. It is water proof and dries fairly quickly pending humidity. You may not need a patch at all. We sell a 2 oz tube and a 8 oz if you need it. 2oz is like 8.00 and 8oz is 12.00. shipping would apply. you can probably find it at your local camping store for the same price. Good luck C-ya Jonce
