Given that MB plans to continue selling Chrysler the parts necessary to build NEW Sprinters for the foreseeable future, and that MB has no plans to COMPETE in the commercial vehicle arena in the US, I'd say the answer is likely "yes". Remember, MB retains 20% ownership of Chrysler, so they have absolutely no reason to sabotage its profitability. The Sprinter van line was one of the few success stories of the whole DaimlerChrysler debacle (7% profitability, never ran in the red) so it's ludicrous to suggest that MB would throw out such an obvious baby with the bathwater--- particularly when all they need to do to make it profitable is sell a few boatloads of the parts they're ALREADY making for their own van production in Europe. -- John Bange '90 Vanagon - "Geldsauger" |
