Most camp sites already have GFI outlets, but I would suspect that it couldn't hurt to do it in your Vanagon. Be sure to do the first outlet in series as to protect both (all) outlets.

I think the plug under the cabinet, where the refrige plugs into, is the first one in series after the exterior power inlet.

I'm not sure how a GFI reacts to a power inverter.

I'll ask my brother-in-law, who is a master electrician, what he thinks... and will post that later (next week, he's on vacation).
